Specialty Dance & Fitness Classes

In addition to pole and aerial, Ophidia offers a range of unique dance and fitness classes. Try them out and find your favorite. As always, bring a water bottle and wear something comfortable that allows you to move. Check descriptions for any suggested clothing or footwear. It’s best to leave jewelry at home or in your bag.

Ballet Booty Barre

Ballet Booty Barre is a total body workout that lifts your seat, tones your thighs and burns fat in record-breaking time. Utilizing the ballet barre to perform small isometric movements set to fantastic music, it is the fastest, most effective, yet safest way to change your body. This technique protects your joints as it does not involve any bouncing or jumping. Each strength section of the workout is followed by a stretching section in order to create long, lean muscle without bulk. The workout launches a full blown attack on the areas of the body all women struggle with: abs, hips, seat and arms. It defies gravity by tapering everything in and lifting it up. The workout requires such focus that you block “life” out for the hour allowing you to obtain the mental benefits achieved in yoga or meditation. A transformed body and a clear head in just one hour- it doesn’t get much better than this.


Hooping is a great way to get fit, tone the body, and have fun while doing it. In this class we will learn the basics of hoop dance and technique. This is an excellent opportunity for you to explore movement meditation, open your heart, boogie down, and find your own inner rhythm. Hey guys, hooping is not just for women so come join in and improve your dance moves! No experience necessary and all ages are welcome! Wear anything you want; for your feet tennis shoes, ballet slippers, or bare feet are appropriate.

Don’t have a hoop? There will be hoops for use or you can buy beautiful adult-sized hoops for $30/each.

Party Power Sculpt (PPS)

Party Power Sculpt (PPS) dance party workout is like going to the club on a Friday night without the guilt of all those electric blue shots followed by the 2 AM hot dog binge. This “class” is an hour’s worth of disco-ball-turnin’, top-pop-hits-bangin’, sweaty FUN. Dance moves will be taught to specific songs (Beyonce, Gaga, Janet, etc etc) that will rotate in and out of the groove repertoire. NO DANCE EXPERIENCE NECESSARY because PPS is all about having a good time while burning some serious calories. There will be no series of pliés or mandatory leotards with pink tights, and there is never one way the moves should be done. Wear something that makes you feel sexy and free to move the way your body wants to (shoes optional). Make Thursday your “dance like nobody’s watchin” night!

What to wear? Come dressed to feel comfortable and fun! Wear something you can move in with tennis shoes or bare feet.


Poi is both the activity and the instrument. Poi were first used by the indigenous people of New Zealand, the Maori people, as a traditional folk activity/dance. The art was adapted by Western culture and has grown to become one of the primary mediums for Fire Dancing. A poi is any tethered weight that can be spun around the body in a ridiculously fun fashion. In this class, you will spin TWO of them at once and you will blow your own mind in your ability to do this. Some call it Yoga for the Brain. It is highly addictive. It will make you smarter, sexier, more coordinated, and improve your general attitude about life.

This class is a beginner’s class, but you do not have to be brand new to poi to benefit. We will be learning planes (next to you vs in front of you), directions, weaves (same direction), butterflies (opposites), corkscrews (horizontal plane), simple transitions, simple turns, basic stalls, and How to Flow. The FIRE part is reserved for those who are truly ready and will NOT take place inside the studio, but on our own time at a location to be determined. However, fire instruction (how to do it and be safe) will be available at the end of class times. Classes are one hour long.

Practice poi are provided but you are encouraged to create your own. Stuff long socks with a ball (remember those days?), fashion shoe strings to a hacky sacks, strangle Beanie Babies with Cole Cord, get creative! Just be sure to make them with the least amount of pain-potential as possible because you WILL smack yourself and other living things. It’s all part of the journey. Together we will love, laugh, and learn how silliness equals sexiness.
